The Conservatory

The Conservatory Cat Cafe started with the hope of keeping more cats out of shelters and off the streets, giving them the chance to find a place to call home. After arduous planning, the cafe was born. On October 24th, 2014, the cafe first opened its doors.

Our goal is to reduce cat euthanasia rates, and to help our furry friends reveal their shining personalities, so that potential adopters can better get to know them. Through our work, we've brought over 500 families and individuals together with their new best friends.

We hope to unite many hundreds more cats with more deserving people. Who knows, if you stop by, you might just fall in love with one of our adorable kitties.

The Cats

In 2018, shelters in Canada took in more than 81,000 cats. The majority of them were taken in as strays (46%). This was followed by cats surrenered by their owners (34%), transfers in from other shelters (11%), and finally other reasons, including cases of abuse and shelter births (9%). The average intake of cats into shelters was less than the previous year.

When it came to adoption, 62% of shelter cats were placed in a new home, which is slightly higher than in 2017. The amount of euthanizations is gradually declining, but the Conservatory is aiming to reduce that even further.

By visiting our cats and adopting them, you're helping keep deserving cats from unfortunate situations. Your act of kindness makes a huge difference in the lives of these fantastic felines.
